Holism Retreat by Studio Tate

6.24.2020

Holism Retreat by Studio Tate is a destination spa at the newly opened 5star MGallery by Sofitel Hotel Chadstone in Melbourne. With an approach that embodies the transformative process of the wellness experience, the practice worked closely with construction specialist Cobild, reimagining the existing base build as an urban sanctuary.

At home amongst its luxury fashion neighbours, with its own unique visual identity, Holism combines colour, texture and form - a layered canvas of muted, desert hues enlivened with arched thresholds and mirrors, sculptural pink granite, curved walls and soft, recessed lighting.

A sculptural reception desk featuring faceted pink granite, brass inlay and mosaic greets guests on arrival. Embracing the desk, a gently curving wall is layered with stone and glossy timber shelves atop brass rods, providing space for curated retail display. Brass accents have been used throughout to encourage seamless experience of nine treatment rooms, a LED light therapy treatment lounge, yoga studio, private consultation suite and guest amenities.

Mindful of each client’s unique needs, the bespoke shelving, in room seating and matte brass hooks offer choice for storage. Equipment is artfully concealed behind large v groove sliding doors that reveal clay coloured joinery. Bookending the spa, the yoga studio and LED light therapy treatment lounge feature ceilings painted terracotta and blush. Restorative accent colours that highlight maps of exposed pipe, the overall palette is genteel and softly spoken, the spaces humble in scale.

Inspired to create a visual narrative of rough texture polished to smooth facet, Holism Retreat by Studio Tate is an intelligent realisation of holistic refinement.
