Melbourne-based multi-disciplinary practice, Hecker Guthrie have completed yet another standout project. Formerly a men's retirement home, the heritage building in Prahran was stripped back and restored with beautiful historical details into a timeless, family home. This involved the removal of (red!) carpet to reveal original Baltic pine floorboards and the taking down of false ceilings to showcase the full height of the rooms. Original detailing such as ceiling roses were then reinstated. I love the contrast between the original curved windows and the clean lines of the new design details such as the black framed doors and poster bed. Elements such as marble and velvet add to the overall elegance of the home.
