McLaren.Excell | The Perfect Canvas

5.19.2015

I've spent a fair chunk of the morning looking through the inspiring portfolio of McLaren.Excell, an architecture and bespoke interiors company based in Chelsea, Central London. The design-led practice is co-directed by Luke McLaren and Robert Excell, who work primarily on private residential and commercial projects. Established in 2010, the practice has taken on a diverse range of work in a short time, steadily building a reputation for producing buildings which have a calm authority and finely nuanced sense of place. Driven by a genuine passion for good design, this is reflected in the projects delivered, which are beautifully conceived and finely crafted.

Case in point, Ingersoll Road is one of their residential projects that demonstrates this beautifully. With concrete being the dominant material, the addition of wood gives contrast, warmth and richness, while the exposed bricks add to the stunning textural effect. Look at the incredible herringbone wooden panels in the kitchen below, and subtle mimicking of this pattern on the white tiled splashback. Such incredible attention to detail, which can be seen throughout the entire home. The perfect canvas to move in and make your own, wouldn't you agree?

A palette of Scandinavian white-washed Douglas Fir boards and light walls keep it simple and light. I particularly love they way the boards run up the wall as panelling.

Exposed copper pipes and a touch of marble in the bathroom. That's it. I'm moving in.
