ferm LIVING | Spring/Summer 2020 Collection

1.15.2020

Danish brand ferm LIVING has introduced their SS2020 collection and the theme is one that I’m sure will resonate with many. Encouraging a slower place where you can savour the moment in the sanctuary of your own ow home, the collection celebrates inner calm and a sense of serenity. Embracing the concept of 'low living', with many designs that bring you closer to the ground, the beautiful pieces invite you to lean back, rest and connect to your surroundings on a new and deeper level. Earthy tones and organic shapes meet sculptural lines and solid, robust forms are merged with soft, natural fittings, with a focus on honest materials. Here's a look a the stunning new imagery and some of my favourite picks.

Working with designers and artisans from various countries, including award-winning Jewellery designer Helena Rohner from Spain and Danish Herman Studio, ferm LIVING continues their design journey by building on their signature use of natural materials, tactile qualities and a colour palette that spans from rich ebony to ivory, icy blue to warm sugar kelp. The embracing design universe is defined by organic shapes, clean lines and feminine tones, balancing the contrasts of wild, Nordic nature with the focus and serenity of inner calm.

The Catena Series is one that  explores the new direction 'low living', and includes the low-slung Catena sofa that is generously dimensioned for maximum comfort and relaxation. Distinguished by soft curves and top-stitched seams, the homely, module-based designs are made from high-density foam and a layer of soft padding for extra cosiness. The series comprises six individual modules that can be combined in multiple ways to create the desired expression.

Another one of my favourites from the collection is the new Vuelta Lamp. Made from opal glass, it has a rippled surface that gives the lamp a lovely textural appearance. The LED light source emits a soft diffused light, and it also includes a dimmer switch to provide different light levels as required.

I also love the Flow Series of tableware that comprises matching bowls, plates, mugs, a jam jar and jug. Available in Black and Yellow Speckly, the pieces have a semi-matte glaze, giving them a unique finish.

In the furniture category ferm LIVING has introduced the Bevel Table and Bevel Bench made from solid oak with sculpted legs and gently rounded edges, the Desert Chair made from recycled plastic bottles, the Mineral Coffee Table that marries natural materials and contrasting finishes in stone and glass, and the Kona Bed inspired by traditional Japanese furniture and 'low living'.

As you know, I can't resist a great shelving unit, so I was excited to see the new Sector Shelves. A modern take on Mid-century design, Sector is defined by its sturdy simplicity and classic combination of wood and brass. Available in two sizes, it would work in so many areas of the home, to display favourite objects or practical, every items, such as storage jars in the kitchen.

There are also some gorgeous new Sculptural Objects and Hooks in silver and brass by jewellery designer Helena Rohner, Ceramic Baskets which have a unique and playful design, and the textural Vulca Mini Vases.

As always with new ferm LIVING collections, I come away with a huge wishlist and find it hard to narrow down the picks and images to share! I'll leave you with a few more of my favourites to finish.
