THE DESIGN CHASER

Avenue Design Studio | Project Kralingen

8.02.2017

Today I'm sharing a new project by Avenue Design Studio, a creative studio based in The Netherlands run by Holly Marder and Hedda Pier. I've been following Holly's award-winning blog Avenue Lifestyle for several years and have always loved seeing the 'before and after's' of the inspiring interiors she designs for private clients. Her style is unpretentious and has a light, almost ethereal quality to it that always brings a sense of calm. Hedda, an interior designer with a passion for architecture and building joined Holly as partner in January this year. Their latest interior design reveal, Project Kralingen, is a beautiful contemporary home in an up-and-coming neighbourhood in Rotterdam.

The owners, a young couple - one of whom is architect Stefan Prins, spent the last three years designing and building their dream 'green' home before enlisting the talented duo to help with the interior design. Highlighting the architectural elements, clean lines and overall light and flow created, Holly and Hedda kept the palette very neutral and introduced warm and cosy textures. One of my favourite areas is the living room which features a magnificent six metre high wall flanking a large glass facade. The two large pieces of art commissioned by multi-disciplinary artist July Adrichem provide a striking yet subtle feature.

I also love the walnut cabinet unit. Custom-designed to separate the living and dining area, it cleverly provides storage for both rooms. The fresh Nordic style continues through to the airy kitchen, which features a mix of beautiful, functional furnishings and accessories chosen to soften the space while adding character and warmth.
