Recently I shared a photo of a petrified wood tray in the kitchen at Lotta Agaton's recent Trend Exhibition. Its unique and intriguing beauty sparked my interest so I was very happy to receive an email from the person behind the piece, Nikodem Calczynski. A collector who gathers the things that catch his eye and fulfil his curiosity, Nikodem is the founder of the recently established ODEM ATLIER in Stockholm.
With a focus on timeless design and fusing the past with the present, Nikodem collaborates with innovative artists to produce decorative artifacts for the home. Aimed at those who appreciate the finer aspects of life, including the miraculous beauties of nature, his first collection is the all-inspiring and wondrously magic Indonesian Petrified Wood. Over six million years old and carefully excavated by farmers during the rainy season, ODEM's hand picked Petrified Wood is of the highest quality from deep underground in Indonesia. Naturally unique, every fossilised piece collected is a rare art form showcasing the fascinating imperfections that lie beneath the surface of the earth.
The Petrified Wood pieces have an organic and raw unearthed beauty that is truly exquisite. A slice of decadence for any room of the home, they would make the most luxurious centre piece. I'm in love!
Along with the Petrified Wood pieces, ODEM curates a careful edit of beautiful objects and ceramics by other artists. To see the full range visit the newly launched Webshop.
