The Scandinavian Minimalist Kitchen by Nordiska Kök

3.21.2022

Known for creating timeless spaces in a soft, minimalist style, Swedish stylist and interior designer Pella Hedeby enlisted Nordiska Kök to build the kitchen for her own beautiful home. Distinctively Scandinavian, the bright and airy space combines natural materials and textural finishes that inject character, warmth and tactility.

The meeting between the modern design and the warm limestone creates an exciting contrast and gives the kitchen personality. "I always strive to create interiors and expressions that I will not get tired of. I can definitely be inspired by other materials and colours in a kitchen, but I always come back to the bright, Scandinavian design," Pella says.

Pella is an expert at softening that bright Scandinavian style with textiles, natural tones and tactile accessories to create cosy and inviting spaces. Her home and kitchen demonstrate this beautifully.

The kitchen is fitted out with solid wood drawers and cabinets in white pigmented oak. The purposeful uniformity of the cabinet width creates a symmetrical and calm impression throughout. The timeless Jura grey limestone and handmade Zellige tiles blend seamlessly with Pella's calm colour scheme, while the natural variation and texture of the materials provide warmth and contrast.

The Industrial Oak kitchen by Nordiska Kök

2.24.2022

For their latest project, Nordiska Kök have created a sleek and functional kitchen for an architect-designed villa outside of Stockholm. A combination of light oak and stainless gives the space a restaurant kitchen feel, while the island, bar stool and ‘chef’s table’ provides the perfect setting for gatherings with friends and family.

The use of white pigmented oak brings a natural warmth, texture and contrast to the kitchen’s industrial elements along with a true Scandinavian touch. The stainless steel worktop and splashback are framed by built-in pocket door cabinets in solid oak, giving the kitchen a tactile yet seamless look. Nordiska Kök's signature bespoke detailing can be seen in the solid oak drawers and inserts and the large oak kitchen island which features a unique bar desk on the opposite side of the working space. Open shelving in stainless steel provides a place to display beautiful tableware as well as functional storage to keep everyday items in easy reach.

The Nordic Kitchen by Nordiska Kök

9.25.2019

Reflecting the very essence of their brand, Swedish Kitchen Company Nordiska Kök have created the Nordic Kitchen. Inspired by the bright Nordic light and austere beauty in this region of the world, the kitchen presents timeless design that delivers an instant feeling of calm and tranquillity.

A kitchen designed to blend in seamlessly in this Kullavik west coast villa, it features a soft greige, tone on tone palette complimented by a textural limestone countertop. A bespoke kitchen island with built in storage includes open shelving and a wine rack. Concealed behind the doors are custom cabinets and drawers in stained oak. A mix of ceramic, vintage and rustic wooden tableware provide the perfect finishing touches, and an upholstered Afteroom Stool by Menu compliments the dreamy space. Serene, yet hard-working, this kitchen strikes a beautiful balance between function and form.

ODEM ATELIER

3.16.2017

Recently I shared a photo of a petrified wood tray in the kitchen at Lotta Agaton's recent Trend Exhibition. Its unique and intriguing beauty sparked my interest so I was very happy to receive an email from the person behind the piece, Nikodem Calczynski. A collector who gathers the things that catch his eye and fulfil his curiosity, Nikodem is the founder of the recently established ODEM ATLIER in Stockholm.

With a focus on timeless design and fusing the past with the present, Nikodem collaborates with innovative artists to produce decorative artifacts for the home. Aimed at those who appreciate the finer aspects of life, including the miraculous beauties of nature, his first collection is the all-inspiring and wondrously magic Indonesian Petrified Wood. Over six million years old and carefully excavated by farmers during the rainy season, ODEM's hand picked Petrified Wood is of the highest quality from deep underground in Indonesia. Naturally unique, every fossilised piece collected is a rare art form showcasing the fascinating imperfections that lie beneath the surface of the earth.

The Petrified Wood pieces have an organic and raw unearthed beauty that is truly exquisite. A slice of decadence for any room of the home, they would make the most luxurious centre piece. I'm in love!

Along with the Petrified Wood pieces, ODEM curates a careful edit of beautiful objects and ceramics by other artists. To see the full range visit the newly launched Webshop

Lately I've been drawn to homeware pieces such as kitchen trays, boards and spoons in a darker wood variety. These hand carved wooden accessories are made in the UK by Forest + Found and are made from reclaimed walnut, giving them a unique grain and beautiful texture. I love the elegant shapes of the spatula and spoons. The bowls would be great for storing everything from fruit to jewellery. Shop the full collection at The Future Kept

ZAKKIA | 2016 Collection 02

8.19.2016

Since launching in 2012, Sydney-based homewares brand Zakkia has gone from strength to strength, gaining huge popularity across Australia and NZ. Now set to launch in Europe, they are getting ready to exhibit their latest collection at the showUP in Amsterdam from 21-22 August. As a huge fan of Zakkia myself, it gives me much pleasure in sharing their new collection Zakkia 16:02 with you today.

With a focus on quality hand craftsmanship and natural materials, Zakkia 16:02 is a collection of understated yet inherently unique design pieces for the home. The gorgeous speckle collection continues with new stoneware bottles, jugs and serving platters. Handmade by Zakkia's Vietnamese partners, the speckles are a natural reaction from the heat in the kilning process and it gives every product its own unique pattern. The introduction of Terrazzo stone brings another element of texture, with a new range of vases, vessels and a decorative pyramid. Incredible on their own, these pieces pair beautifully with the matt finishes of the raw range which include vases, storage jars and a bottle designed for pouring oil. Handmade by Zakkia's partner ceramic studio in northern Vietnam where they have been hand producing ceramics for over 900 years, the raw ceramic outer is complimented with a darker glaze inside to create a special tactile quality.

Other new pieces include the watering can, orbs and glass jars. Zakkia have also collaborated with Finnish-Australian Illustrator Meeri Anneli to create a range of beautiful cutting boards and trays.

Aside from the beautiful aesthetics, I love that each design possesses versatile qualities that will carry through time and everyday use. A dream collection, especially for us Scandi-style lovers! Now available on pre-order, visit Zakkia to shop online.
