THE DESIGN CHASER

Maison du Danemark by GamFratesi

2.13.2017

Located along the Champs-Élysées in Paris, Maison du Danemark has recently been renovated to include two exquisite new restaurants. On the ground floor is Flora Danica, a high-end brasserie, and on the first level is Copenhague, a fine-dining experience. The incredible space was designed by Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi, who chose materials and colour schemes to create a classic Danish environment fused with a Parisian aesthetic.

Bathed in natural light with direct access to a terrace, the brasserie is characterised by beautiful green hues and natural stone. Furnished with Gubi Beetle Chairs designed by GamFratesi, each has been upholstered in various textiles that complement the surrounding soft green and grey palette. Flora Danica also features an expressive custom-made GamFratesi Gubi piece called the TS Table which has now become part of the permanent collection. One wall is decorated with botanical drawings within a unique geometric frame structure, and green plants have been used to bring an element of nature into the restaurant.

Copenhague, shown below, offers a moodier more intense dining experience with with dark blue walls paired with grey and black detailing. Dark blue leather paired with Raf Simons Kvadrat textiles used for the deep blue curtains and tablecloths create a dramatic yet intimate setting. For this restaurant GamFratesi designed a four-legged version of its Masculo chair, chosen for its comfort and strong references to Danish design classics from the 50s. Walls are decorated with the brand's Cobra Lamps and large Mirrors.
