Homes to Inspire | Graphic Elegance in Denmark

5.24.2016

This beautiful home belongs to Hanne Berzant, the founder and former creative director of the Danish company By Nord. Just a short distance from downtown Copenhagen, it is also close to the forest and beach, making it the perfect location for Hanne and her family. Undoubtedly Nordic in style the elegant home combines design icons with functionality and comfort in equal measure. High ceilings and free-flowing light which Hanne says she has to have in order to thrive create a wonderful atmosphere, while the herringbone parquet floors throughout the house provide a graphic backdrop to the whole decor. Specially treated to create a greyish hue, they blend beautifully with interior's natural dusty palette. With these main elements and clean lines in place, Hanne says it's the soft things that give personality and depth to a home to make you feel like settling down on the couch under a blanket to recharge with the family. Natural materials like linen, ceramics and hand-knotted Berber rugs also provide plenty of warmth and texture.

Now in the process of launching a new lifestyle brand, Hanne applies the same eye for detail with her designs as she does with the decor of her own home.  She has chosen beautiful design furniture including the Hans Wegner Ox Chair and Arne Jacobsen's Grand Prix chairs which you can see around the dining table above, mixed with pieces from Italian and Spanish design houses. The simplicity and clean lines of these pieces fit perfectly with the home's original detailing.

  1. Love the black and white aesthetic with so much natural light and faded herringbone floor! And that skull is a really nice touch.
