Zakkia | Spring/Summer 2015

10.05.2015

Founded in late 2012, Zakkia specialises in quality, hand made products for the home. Created by Sara Lundgren, a Swede turned Sydneysider, the brand is a fusion of Scandinavian heritage and natural designs inspired by life in Bondi. A distinctive style that resonates with so many, it makes me extremely happy to announce the launch of their new Spring/Summer 2015 Collection today!

In keeping with Zakkia's signature aesthetic, the collection blends Scandinavian simplicity with a clean, monochrome base, beautiful textures and raw materials. Introducing for the first time a range of stunning hand blown glass vessels, the minimalist shapes mirror those that have featured in the first two collections. The gorgeous colour palette includes smokey black and a subtle aqua that is reflective of the Bondi lifestyle and coastal feel.

The braided baskets are another new addition. Made in Vietnam from water hyacinth, they are perfect for storing items around the home. The new ceramic and brass objects are also beautifully tactile, functional and versatile. In fact each piece has been thoughtfully created to have multiple uses.

The Summer range also sees the expansion of Zakkia's iconic concrete collection to include their very first 100% soy wax scented candle range. Named after the Swedish seasons, they include Sommar (sea spray and hay), Höst (French pear), Vinter (fig & vanilla) and Vår (cucumber & white jasmine).  The new Brass Candle Snuffer is also a must-have!

Sara, who first came to Australia on a six month student exchange seven years ago and never left, created Zakkia out of a love of home decor. Ordering from overseas online shops, the long delivery times and expensive shipping proved extremely frustrating, so she decided to take matters into her own hands. What followed was many months of hard work, designing and fine-tuning the pieces which are produced by small artisan communities around the world. Along the way Sara recruited Emma Williamson, an Australian returning home after living in New York, who has become the second driving force behind the brand. The pair says that the partnerships they have built with their suppliers in Vietnam, India and China have been key in achieving their goal. The small, family owned businesses that they work with have a huge amount of knowledge and skill and understand their mission to produce affordable pieces that are carefully handmade from high quality materials.
