Interior Styling | Dining Table Lighting

When it comes to my interior styling posts, the dining area has been sadly neglected! I thought it was about time I gave it some attention, especially seen as it's such an important area where we often congregate for family meals, dinner parties or just to hang out with the paper or laptop and a cuppa! Of course furniture is a major component, and I'm the first to admit ours needs a big overhaul. I live in hope that I'll one day own my dream table, preferably of the large, solid wood variety, and a set of Hans Wegner Wishbone Chairs. Today however I've decided to focus on pendant lighting as I'm on the lookout for our new house. These images from my dining Pinterest board represent some of my favourite styles.

Able to be reconfigured in countless ways, I love the flexibility and minimalist style of the three-armed industrial Workstead Chandelier. It cleverly combines form and function while adding interest to the dining area, without overpowering. If I had a spare $1800 then I'd certainly treat myself, and I'm sure our new home would thank me for it!

I can't go past the simplicity of single hanging bulbs, as shown in the examples above and below. The diamond shaped bulbs above are so pretty, while the cords and fittings below add a pop of bright colour.

Brass, copper and gold lighting is so on trend right now. I love everything from the Tom Dixon range.

I recently discovered the Disc Pendant by Toss B when I came across the gorgeous Scandi-style Melbourne above on The Design Files. I've been obsessing over it ever since!

You can't go wrong with a pair of black industrial lights suspended above bright white interiors and colourful accessories.

Two of my favourite lighting brands are Muuto (above) and our own local design hero David Trubridge (below).

  1. It's hard to go past a Tom Dixon - he's the man! x

  2. Thank you so much for this, we are currently building and am struggling with a entrance light and a dining light and you've provided inspiration for both.

    Love love this blog.

    Thanks Tahnee

    1. Hi Tahnee. How is your build going? Did you decide on the concrete in your kitchen and your bathroom tiles? So many decisions aren't there? I'm glad I could help with your lighting x

    2. Hi, you remembered!! Yes, we went with a concrete benchtop in the kitchen. Tiles are white subway tiles with dark grout and bluestone on the floors for our bathrooms. I couldn't handle making more decisions so kept them white and bluestone in both bathrooms and laundry. There is and when you aren't great at making decisions it's challenging. ha x

    3. It sounds amazing Tahnee! I love subway tiles and the bluestone sounds stunning. Keeping them the same will give your home a lovely sense of continuity. As for the concrete benchtop - I'm a tad envious! I love hearing your progress so keep in touch x

  3. Holy dooly I LOVE that copper shade by Tom Dixon. If only I had a house to put it in!

    1. It's stunning isn't it? Thanks for stopping by Andrea x

  4. I've been eyeing the Douglas and Bec chandelier, I would happily purchase their whole store! I also love the Trubridge lights but they are EVERYWHERE now, I even saw them in a mall yesterday which takes the fun out of them a little.

I LOVE your blog, it is so inspirational. We are about to begin our build so all your posts have been super helpful :)

    1. I know what you mean, I feel the same way about Douglas and Bec! The chandelier is incredible. Thanks for the kind words about the blog. How exciting that you are building! Stay in touch - I'd love to hear your progress x

  5. ....also, what about these:

    1. Funny you should say that Alesha.... after I wrote the post, I suddenly thought of Simon James ..... too many ideas, not enough time! I love all of these and many others on the site! x

  6. Awesome round up Michelle, love them all & would take one of each for every room in my house! T x

  7. I love love love all the lights in your roundup!! Especially Tom Dixon. I would fill my house with any of his pretty fixtures. They are so simple yet make such a big statement.

    1. Oh, I know what you mean! Thanks Sarah, hope you are keeping well x

  8. Great creativity. All furniture pics sounds great!!
