Flooring Xtra Rugs Now Online | Giveaway + Reader Offer

8.08.2018

I'm really excited to have teamed up with Flooring Xtra to share some great news with you today. Their wide range of beautiful and affordable designer rugs are now available to purchase online, and to celebrate I have an exciting giveaway and reader offer.

To help spread the word I was set with the fun task of selecting a new rug for our home from the online collection. A little apprehensive about choosing a piece of this scale online, I needn't have worried. The site offers plenty of visual inspiration, product descriptions and measurements to ensure you get it just right. The hard part was choosing from so many lovely options! Deciding to replace the rug in our living area, I was looking for a neutral but lighter colour to work in with our existing decor and uplift the space. Being open plan, I wanted a larger rug to really define the area and offer maximum comfort, but it was also important that it compliment our rug in the adjacent dining area. After some deliberation I made a shortlist of three neutral rugs. Different elements such as fringing and patterning were included in the mix, but the one I decided on was the classic, soft woven Nebraska rug in natural white. Available in three sizes to suit any sized space, the 200x300cm is perfect for our living area.

After a super-speedy delivery, I couldn't wait to roll it out and see how it looked in our living room. The undyed wool adds a beautiful warmth underfoot and the texture is subtle, yet still visually striking. As I had hoped, the colour not only fits perfectly into our interior, it works well alongside our dining area rug.

norsu Launches Botanica Series by Vee Speers + Reader Offer

11.30.2016

It's been a while since I treated you to some exciting news from norsu, but today's launch has definitely been worth the wait. Their latest release is a beautiful new collection of prints - 'Botanica' by Paris-based Australian artist Vee Speers.

Symbolising a moment of peaceful solitude in an increasingly complex world, the Botanica series creates a quiet space away from the chaos of everyday life. The resulting collection is fittingly described as a secret garden carefully cultivated via a series of photographic flora artwork. Immensely talented, Vee adopts the same method of photography as she does with her human portraits, capturing the flowers outdoors in black and white, then subtly colouring them to enhance and transform them. The portraits draw the viewer into a botanical world, with an ethereal feel through their fresh new hues, animated by a powerful breath of new life.

Vee Speers never fails to take my breath away with her stunning artworks. Botanica's unique connection to nature and the soft use of colour make the prints truly captivating. From the beautiful series norsu founders Kristy Sadlier and Nat Wheeler have carefully selected works that compliment their brand's well-loved palette of blush pinks, grey and muted tones. The gorgeous collection features 6 x poster sized prints in 50x70cm, in addition to a pack of 11 cards in A5 size.

I'm sure like me, many of you will have been following norsu's exciting #30daysofprints campaign on Instagram which has seen them add new pieces to their Scandinavian artLAB each day throughout the month of November. Finishing on a high with the release of the Botanica collection, norsu are celebrating with 10% off their entire artLAB until midnight Sunday 4 December!

To redeem the discount, simply enter the code ‘ARTLAB’ upon checkout.

norsu interiors | 2016 Collection Launch

4.29.2016

As many of you will now know I recently travelled to Melbourne to style the norsu interiors 2016 collection campaign. Working with inspiring norsu founders Nat Wheeler and Kristy Sadlier alongside renowned Australian photographer Lisa Cohen was such an incredible honour. Definitely my biggest career highlight to date, I am beyond excited to be sharing the images with you today!

Presenting an array of of interior living spaces in norsu's signature pastel colour palette, the images showcase the boutique's carefully curated collection of Nordic homewares and diverse range of art prints. The collection also features several images shot in a Scandinavian ‘boho luxe’ style, reflecting a new direction norsu is taking since announcing their partnership with iconic Swedish design-house Love Warriors of Sweden earlier this year. Adding yet another layer to norsu's already comprehensive offering of Scandinavian goods, Nat says (and I couldn't agree more) "We love that the term 'Scandi' - in the interiors sense - has so many different interpretations." With a product range that is constantly growing and evolving, norsu are able to provide customers with a unique offering across multiple styles.

Featuring an extensive mix of local and imported product, the images welcome many new and exclusive Nordic brands to the norsu collection. These include HK Living, Martin Moore, Studio Joop, Boomini, Kortkartellet, Vita Copenhagen and Lindholdt, teamed with local brands Globe West, Armadillo & Co, Incy Interiors, CULTIVER, Olli Ella, Raw Luxe Interiors, Byron Bay Hanging Chairs, Batch Ceramics, Evie and Woollen Collective.

The opportunity to style such a beautiful range of products certainly made this a dream job for all involved, but we also sought to deliver achievable looks. For everyday decorators, this means you can replicate these spaces within your own home.

I'm sure I've said it before but I often wonder whether Kristy and Nat actually sleep, because in true norsu style they have more exciting news around the corner. The release of this collection coincides with the opening of their second Melbourne retail store in Hawthorn next month! This larger store will compliment their existing Malvern East store by providing a space to showcase furniture, rugs and art within a styled insitu environment. It sounds so fabulous, I think I'll have to head back over to Melbourne just to check it out!

Adding another dimension to the campaign, this time around Nat and Kristy decided to film the shoot day. To see what goes on behind-the-scenes, check out the video below!

And finally in celebration of this exciting launch, norsu are very kindly offering a 15% discount on the new and exclusive Under Water series of art prints by Silke Bonde. Recently featured on the blog these three beautiful prints are showcased in the last of the campaign images above, alongside the gorgeous limited edition Blue World art print, also by Silke Bonde. Such a serene bedroom, this is definitely one space I would love to replicate at home!

Designstuff | Interview + Reader Offer

2.17.2016

I first discovered the Melbourne-based online store Designstuff through Instagram. With its strong Scandinavian focus I felt an instant connection, but I was also drawn to the warm and friendly captions that went with each inspiring image. Judging by their following, now nearing 100K, I am clearly not alone. Resonating with many Scandi design lovers around the world, Designstuff was founded in 2012 by Christina Fedders and is home to a contemporary collection of design in various forms, including homewares, toys, gifts and art – all handpicked from a pool of local and international talent. The Scandinavian influence makes perfect sense when you learn that Christina actually grew up in Denmark. Inspired by both her upbringing and her travels as an international fashion buyer, Christina created Designstuff as a unique online destination for people who love to live through design. Wanting to find out a bit more about the company and the people behind it, I asked Christina a few questions...

Can you tell us a bit about your roots, Danish background and the path that led you to launching an online store?

It’s funny, I can’t actually remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated with design. I think maybe it’s in my blood. I grew up in Denmark, where my Dad is a buyer and product developer in the fashion industry. I have memories of being on family holidays and trawling through vintage shops in San Francisco, stores in Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam - With my Dad, looking for inspiration for “The Next Big Thing.” As a young girl, I would beg him to take me to the Trade Fairs in Milan and other parts of Europe. And once I was actually old enough, he really did take me. So I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a buyer.

After I graduated university, I won a global internship that allowed me to work in buying departments in Canada, New York and Hong Kong. Eventually I ended up in Melbourne in Australia in a fashion-buying role that I absolutely loved. But after the birth of my daughter Clara (now 4) I realised that I needed a career change. Fashion was hectic and crazy and wonderful, but not always family friendly. Suddenly 70 hour+ workweeks and constant overseas business trips didn’t seem feasible. I decided I wanted to start my own small business and starting a Scandinavian design-focused store felt incredibly natural.

How would you describe your personal style and how is this reflected in the products you stock?

This question is so funny, because I look down and realise that my personal style is a mirror image to the products that we stock. Ha! For example, I rarely wear black, I’m not afraid of colour, I love clean lines and I will often accessorise my outfits with a touch of brass.

And in regards to the products that we stock, we only stock very select black pieces, lots of designs in soft colours, products with beautiful clean lines and I love metallic products in brass, copper and nickel. After this interview I may have to start dressing differently!

What do you look for when seeking out new brands and product ranges?

A few different things, but we do love a good back-story. A good story behind a brand or range gets us every time. Also we look for authenticity, quality and value. Apart from that, we always try to keep on top of trends. I must get that from my Dad. I’m still searching for The Next Big Thing.

It's great to see that you stock so many of TDC readers' favourite Scandinavian brands, including recent arrivals from ferm LIVING, HAY, and Menu to name just a few! What is it about these brands that you love?

We love ferm LIVING, HAY and Menu too. It’s interesting, on the surface maybe these brands don’t feel aesthetically similar but something that unites them is their constant pursuit for designs that take risks and set new trends. All three brands regularly ask designers from other studios to collaborate with them on product designs. We love this! It’s such a great way to keep things fresh and exciting.

What would be your favourite product picks right now?

Within our Child + Baby category, definitely the Tower Chair by BZBX – It’s just so adaptable, we love that a child can sit in the same chair from six months through to seven years. Also, we love its clean lines and fresh Scandinavian styling.

As for homewares, a personal favourite is the Globe Vase by new Danish brand AYTM. We opened the box up last week and we were all blown away. It is so much bigger then you expect. It creates a really beautiful statement without being too overpowering or showy. I also love the Greek marble range by Mette Ditmer. Mette is Danish too, and she’s created the most beautiful bathroom accessories using real Greek marble. There’s a soap dispenser, a tumbler and a toilet brush all accented with matte black nickel. The range is truly beautiful.

What have been your most popular products to date?

Definitely the Tower Chair, the Menu Bottle Grinders, the Adventure Rug from Oyoy, quilts from Cam Cam and anything ferm LIVING does in brass. Our customers are crazy for brass.

Do you travel often for work... trade shows, buying trips etc? Any exciting trips coming up or projects in the works?

I get back to Denmark at least twice a year and when I’m in Europe I always make it a priority to travel to Stockholm and Paris. I feel like between Copenhagen, Paris and Stockholm I can really get a feel for what the up and coming trends are and what might work well for Australia and New Zealand. Also, I try to attend Maison & Objet and Northmodern every year but it can sometimes be hard with two young kids. I think I know now, why my Dad made me wait till I was older before letting me attend trade fairs with him!

Who is the voice behind your Instagram account?

It’s actually Monica, one of the girls on our small team. Can you believe that before I made her responsible for our Instagram account, she had never actually been on social media before? Never been on Instagram and never had a Facebook account? I think it’s amazing how well she’s done considering she was a complete social media novice. It’s definitely her calling! She is such a natural.

You have built up an impressive Instagram following! What role does it play in your day to day business? Who are some of your favourite Instagram accounts?

Yes, it’s incredible; Monica’s grown our following from 2,000 to over 95,000+ in little over a year! I think it’s because her genuine passion for design and interiors really shines through. Her enthusiasm is infectious and our followers love how relaxed she is. There is no snootiness or snobbery, which is exactly how I want our team to represent Designstuff. In day to day business Instagram helps a lot. Being an online business, our customers need to be able to reach us on as many channels as possible and a lot of people prefer to contact us via Instagram. They like the immediacy and fun of it.

My favourite Instagram accounts are: @simonlarsen, @matharrison, @simonehaag, @hellomala, @tuulavintage, @dane_studio, @tessguinery, @_sophiajames_, @huxbaby, @sallyfazeli, @biancacash, @virgola_, @curated_by, @tarapearce, @designdevotee, @petraholain, @zotheysay, @whitefortype, @aimeestylist, @ameliabarnes, @sarah_kelk, @mimdesignstudio, @amerrymishap, @sophie_vine, @scandifan, @casieeeesmith, @jessicahansonstylist, @jardanfurniture, @menuworld and of course @thedesignchaser! But I could go on and on and on…!

What else inspires you... on the web, other creatives, travel etc?

Definitely Danish interior magazines. I subscribe to a select few, and find them endlessly inspiring. I find RUM Interior Design magazine particularly inspiring. On the Melbourne interior design scene, I always love what Hecker Guthrie and Mim Design Studio are doing. And on a more personal level I draw a lot of inspiration from my team and my family. They all have such exceptional taste, even my four year old!

What a wonderful insight into the world of Designstuff! Huge thanks to Christina!

I have spent quite some time pouring over the extensive range of products to pick out some to share with you. Not an easy choice, but here are some favourites....

Neutral Instinct welcomes ooh noo

11.30.2015

With both design-conscious parents and kids in mind, the beautiful, Scandi-inspired online store Neutral Instinct has recently expanded into children's ware. Stocking popular international brands such as Tellkiddo, Design Letters and Cooee, their latest addition is the beautiful children's label ooh noo.

Designed and created in Europe, with love and traditional craftsmanship, the collection combines old-world charm with minimalist contemporary design. Made from the highest quality materials, the bedding is extremely soft yet durable and features original artwork that will appeal to girls and boys alike. In fact ooh noo was created when one of the brand's designers wanted bedding that she could mix and match and use for both her children, a girl and a boy. Bedding that was well designed and made of pure materials that could be washed and dried again and again while getting better with age. Giving new meaning to the term hand-me-downs, ooh noo is designed to be passed down and to stand the test of generations. The collection also includes a range of gorgeous toys such as the Alphabet Blocks, Googy Rocking Horse and the award-winning Mr Crocodile on a Stick.

I've had the pleasure of seeing the bedding up close, and the quality really is amazing. It certainly lives up to the promise of being beautiful, pure and lovable. See which products I picked and how I styled them in Marlow's room over on Instagram.

To celebrate the launch of this gorgeous new brand, Neutral Instinct are offering TDC readers 15% off all ooh noo bedding pre-orders, from now until midnight on Wednesday 2nd of December.

NOTE: this offer applies to all ooh noo duvet covers and pillow cases. It excludes ooh noo cushions and toys. To redeem this offer, enter TDC at checkout. Pre-orders are expected to arrive 7th December. Open to New Zealand and Australian residents only.

Happy shopping!
