Reform | Designers Remix Studio

2.14.2020

Sustainable fashion brand Designers Remix have just completed their new showroom and office in Copenhagen. "A love letter to sustainability and feminism", created with a contemporary art gallery feel, the white frame of the studio highlights the kitchen which has been designed by Danish kitchen specialists Reform, in a makeup inspired palette of nudes. Like a piece of art where function meets beauty and creates a central statement, the kitchen blends classic lines with a modern twist, the colour scheme providing a unique, puzzle-like feeling.

The same colour palette has been applied to the rest of the studio, with three Swell armchairs from Normann Copenhagen in varying shades of nude. Marble Lato tables by &tradition provide complimentary cream hues and textural warmth. A huge bespoke upcycled vintage marble table is another nod to Designers Remix's sustainable ethos.

The colour consistency carries through to the bathroom, also designed by Reform.

”I was inspired by make-up colours. Shades of beige and blush. To me, these are the colours of sustainability – like cardboard, wood and untreated materials. The true colours of nature. The bathrooms feels powder coated like a woman's powder room. The white zink and the white elements give a contemporary feeling. We are very happy to have collaborated with Reform in the making of our kitchen and bathroom. The collaboration honours the importance of quality and design, and shows a contemporary studio that will stand the test of time." — Charlotte Eskildsen, Creative Director of Designers Remix

Cereal Magazine | The Row

9.27.2016

I picked up a copy of the latest Cereal magazine on the weekend. One of my favourite publications, there is a wonderful article on The Row's two year old flagship store located at Melrose Place, Los Angeles. Founders Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have an incredible eye for both fashion and interiors and this is reflected in the boutique's stunning fitout. If I were to visit in real life (and I hope to one day) I think I'd be just as taken with the clothes as the furniture, art and objects on display. Though restrained and elegant, the space was created to feel like a home, and even has an incredible pool.

Karen Walker Fragrances

9.28.2015

As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, a highlight last week was testing out the Karen Walker Eau do Parfum. The Trio of fragrances: A,B and C are an exciting addition to the NZ fashion designer's existing repertoire that includes clothing, accessories, eyewear, and jewellery. Known for shaking things up, Karen Walker always finds a way of bringing something new and unique to the market, and these fragrances are no exception. Exuding optimism and energy, much like the designer herself, the fragrances were created in collaboration with Charobot, the oldest perfume house in the world. Travelling to Grasse in the South of France to work closely with them, Karen was able to form a partnership that combines the perfect combination of traditional craft and modern attitude.

“I’ve always wanted to create a range of fragrances and I’m thrilled with this trio. The three different scents allow the Karen Walker woman to have a scent for any mood, any day, any time and any occasion.” Karen Walker

To test out these incredible fragrances on the weekend, I decided to enlist the help of my close friend Natalie. Wine connoisseur and boutique candle designer, Natalie has a 'good nose' and natural affinity for beautiful fragrances having worked with perfumers in France. Of course I didn't need to twist her arm. Over a few wines we had a glorious girly afternoon, each deciding on a favourite!

I recommend testing them out in store, but here's a little bit about each, including their ingredients:

A is the happiness potion.
A refreshing, fruity floral with top notes of cassis, crushed mint leaves and grapefruit, heart notes of rose, lily of the valley, green tea and ylang ylang, on a solar musk base.

B is feminine and efflorescent.
A delicious floral gourmand with top notes of bergamot, pink pepper, and grapefruit, heart notes of iris, white rose, peach and Sambac Jasmine, and base notes of patchouli, praline, tonka bean, musk and vanilla.

C is addictive. It’s compelling, opulent and generous.
A creamy, sensual floral with top notes of gardenia, magnolia,
mandarin and bergamot, heart notes of tuberose, orange flower, Sambac Jasmine and lily of the valley, and base notes of sandalwood, amber, musk, and cashmere wood.

For the gorgeous cube shaped bottles, which are a design feature in their own right, Karen chose the world-renowned fragrance bottle creator, Pochet du Courval in France. Founded in 1623, Pochet has almost four centuries of experience in creating the purest glass for the highest quality luxury perfume bottles. The bright graphics, a bespoke A,B and C which represent Karen's chic-meets-eccentric style were designed by London-based design house DJA, who are famed for their work with Prada and Dior.

The fragrance trio is exclusive to Harvey Nichols in the UK and Myer in Australia. In New Zealand it is available through the Karen Walker boutiques, top department stores as well as select fashion boutiques throughout the country.

BoConcept | Collaborate Launch

6.26.2014

Constantly evolving their product offering with each new collection, Danish brand BoConcept has collaborated with several international designers, the most recent being Oki Sato of the Japanese brand Nendo. This collaborative process has now been brought to New Zealand, with BoConcept inviting three local designers to curate a space in their BLOC showroom using product from both BoConcept and their own personal collections.

Working with BoConcept for the last few months, fashion designer Juliette Hoganillustrator Evie Kemp and jewellery designers Meadowlark have now brought their unique spaces to life. Last night I had the pleasure of attending the exciting launch.

I was instantly drawn to the minimal styling and clean lines of Juliette Hogan's work space. It has a lovely sense of calm, a feature Juliette says is important to her in helping with the creative process of design. Her love of photography is showcased with stunning imagery of the Juliette Hogan summer 14 campaign on the walls, reflecting the clean and subtle nature of the brand.

Fun and eclectic, Evie Kemp says the inspiration for her living space is that of juxtapositions - in theme, shape and texture. "It’s through these juxtapositions that a space takes on a life of it’s own and is a visual and sensory delight to be in. This space represents my personality and all facets of my life, a haven to relax in surrounded by all the things that I love."

Meadowlark designers Claire Hammon and Greg Fromont, along with Charlotte Rust chose to curate a dark bedroom to create density, layering in lots of texture for interest. The duvet cover features patches by Andrew McLeod who they have just launched a collaboration with. "This room is a mash up of what we would consider our dream home."

BoConcept | Collaborate will be on display at BLOC (Cnr Enfield & Normanby roads, Mt Eden) until the 12th of July, so if you're in Auckland be sure to pop in for a look!

Instagram | Ideas + Inspiration

1.24.2014

I've been on Instagram for about six months now, but I still feel new to the game sometimes. It's definitely becoming very addictive though, and looking back over my feed from the holidays, there were lots of photos to choose from. Sifting through fun photos of the kids antics, bush walks and visits to the pools, I've picked out some recent Instagram moments from around home.

One thing I'm doing more of, is searching out those whose work I love, whether they are stylists, photographers, fashion designers, bloggers or other creative types. Therese Sennerholt is a Stockholm-based freelance art director, known for her incredible interior styling and graphic range of prints. As expected, her feed is amazing.

Following your favourite fashion brands on Instagram is not only a great way of keeping up with new collections, it gives you a glimpse behind the scenes. I'm loving the feed of talented French Fashion Designer Isabel Marant

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. If you're also celebrating Anniversary day on Monday, enjoy the extra day's rest. Here's hoping for lots of sunshine! See you back here on Tuesday.

Kylee Davis Knitwear | Interiors Launch

12.10.2013

I recently had the pleasure of crossing paths with renowned New Zealand knitwear designer Kylee Davis. When she mentioned she was working on an interiors line, I knew it would be something to watch out for. The new collection has now been released and features a range of striking homewares including sumptuous blankets, stunning cushions and cool knitted hanging pendant lights. Kylee's unique aesthetic translates beautifully to interiors, and this range will definitely appeal to those who appreciate quality, New Zealand-made design.

During Kylee's illustrious career as a fashion designer, stylist and manufacturer, she has achieved an impressive amount of commercial success, including winning the prestigious Benson & Hedges Supreme Award and Air NZ Export Development Award. Her first knitwear label Insidious Fix was stocked throughout Australasia and select boutiques in Denmark, the US and the UK, gathering a cult-like following. Her second label Stitch Ministry went on to win further commercial success, and in 2011 Kylee launched her self-titled knitwear label with Browns Fashions, one of the world’s premium retailers and a fashion landmark in the English capital, becoming the world’s first stockist of the exclusive New Zealand made label.

As with the Kylee Davis Knitwear fashion line, the homewares are all made locally in New Zealand using the finest-quality natural yarns, including cotton, linen, angora/lambswool and merino. "For each product we work closely with textile technicians to develop a knit that is unique and exclusive to the Kylee Davis brand."

The cushions come in a range of patterns, including aztec, jacquards and owls. The blankets, available in shades of red, navy and beige are available in super king, as well as a throw size which is perfect for single beds or couches. The knitted lights come in a variety of fun and playful colours such as pink, orange, green and blue. Prices range from $550 for the king size blankets, down to just $49 for the pendants, so there is something to suit all budgets.

I'm also happy to report that the Kylee Davis Knitware pop-up store has recently opened up, just in time for Christmas! Located at 9 Mt Eden Rd in Auckland, it stocks the new interiors line, which will also be available online soon. Keep up to date by following Kylee Davis Knitware on Facebook
