Heritage Architecture Meets Iconic Design in a Stockholm Apartment

6.29.2020

This turn of the century apartment in Stockholm has been extensively renovated, while retaining its historical charm. Original architectural elements include high ceilings and unique stucco, stained glass windows with deep marble niches, beautiful wooden flooring and wall mouldings. My favourite area is the living room which has been furnished with iconic design pieces including the Tufty Time sofa by Patricia Urquiola, a pair of 637 Utrecht Armchairs by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld and a Charlotte Perriand stool.

While designer furniture and art breathes new life into the old, vintage pieces are a nod to the home's past. I love the sideboard which combines dark wood with fabric panels. Most probably a second-hand find, it reminds me of the elegant Canvas Cabinet collection by Norm Architects and L.Ercolani. Combining form and function, it provides both storage and a place to display books, ceramics, art and objects. The bookstand is by Livrest.
