This week I discovered Melbourne based photographer Maegan Brown and was blown away by her work. Dedicated to creating powerful and emotive imagery that tells a story and captures a moment or mood, Maegan's personal fine art projects present remote and other-worldly landscapes through minimal compositions. Experimenting with scale, depth and shape, Meagan's art emulates a feeling of calm, stillness and solitary. Her upcoming solo exhibition After—Form will take place at Apartment, by Sisällä Interior Design during the month of May. Photographed throughout Death Valley National Park and the Mojave Desert, After—Form depicts the isolated, enduring and prehistoric landscapes which were formed more than 150 million years ago, during the age of the dinosaurs.
From dramatic canyons to peaceful valleys, Maegan explores celestial terrain, focusing on the relentless and prevailing nature of the vast and expansive environment. Multi-coloured rock formations, geologic textures and fascinating displays of erosion create a conflicting sense of force and calm; everlasting, primitive wilderness.
Impeccably styled alongside beautiful furniture and lighting, the artworks create a striking focal point in these interior spaces. I love how the detail is brought to life against the soft pink wall, and in contrast, the sense of drama created with the black backdrop.
It would be amazing to see the artworks up close in real life. If you're lucky enough to live in Melbourne or are visiting, the opening night will take place on Thursday May 3 from 6-9pm. Join Maegan and the Sisällä team for a celebratory drink, kindly supplied by Gage Roads Brewing Co.
