Interior Styling | Small Spaces on a Budget

10.15.2014

Today's post was inspired by the sweet little guest room below, that I discovered via the fabulous blog The Veda House. Described by owner Cassie as being 'itty bitty' she says it's really important to practice the art of restraint and keep small rooms clutter-free. I couldn't agree more! By using clever tricks like painting the walls a crisp white and replacing the closet handles, she has created a beautifully simple space that is warm and welcoming. Coat hooks for personal items, magazines, artwork and a touch of greenery add the finishing touches. I was also amazed to read that the headboard was found on the side of the road! Check out another one of Cassie's beautiful headboards recently featured on T.D.C in this post.

As you know I love wall hooks and can quite happily find a use for them in every room of the home, the bedroom being no exception. Simple wire coat hangers in this next small space not only look great, they help keep magazines off the floor.

When turning a spare room into a home office is not an option, I recommend finding a spare corner to set up a small study nook. The budget may not stretch as far as to buy a gorgeous String Shelf desk like the one above, but the narrow size and shelving provides lots of inspo for the DIY'ers out there. The Shorthand Desk from Freedom and Jordi Kids Desk from Mocka (which are both fine for adults) are great options and to create some simple shelves, I recommend using these brackets from Father Rabbit and some simple shelves from Bunnings

A lovely addition to any clean, minimalist interior, ladders can be used in the living room, bedroom or even the bathroom. Because they take take up very little room they are perfect for small spaces. I found a fantastic DIY option with step by step instructions over on A Merry Mishap.

Lastly, here's one for the kitchen thanks to A Beautiful Mess. An area where we commonly want to maximise space and create extra storage, I think this DIY Wire Utensil Rack is a brilliant idea. Perfect for kitchens that are lacking in terms of drawer space and cabinetry, it's straight forward to make and easy on the pocket.
