THE DESIGN CHASER

Musings + Moodboards

3.28.2014

I've hit a bit of a wall this week. Not so much exhaustion or burnout (which I experience from time to time) but more a feeling of being overwhelmed with everything. The blog is coming up to its second birthday, and while I cannot be happier with the rate at which it has grown (largely thanks to all of you for being here), the growth has meant a much bigger workload. Now don't get me wrong - I do thrive on this, but I'm sure as many bloggers will agree, it's a lot to manage for one person. Of course bigger blogs have contributors and content managers etc, but some of us are not yet at that level!

First and foremost I want to focus on the blog and move forward with the enthusiasm and passion that drove me to start in the first place. In order to do this, I've decided to limit the number of styling jobs I take on. I'm loving the PR work that I'm doing and will continue to post everyday here on the blog, give or take the odd day when the wheels fall of completely! I also mentioned last week that I have a couple of exciting projects coming up. One is the blog redesign, but I also want to look at my blog content and create a bit more structure. This includes my blog layouts, starting with my moodboards which I decided could really do with a re-fresh!

Today I've taken inspiration from the Zara Spring/Summer Campaign, which I've been lusting over lately. While the bare midriffs are looking a bit chilly as we move towards winter here in NZ, I love seeing what's in store for us next year, and many of the clothes are trans-seasonal. Overall, there's a gorgeous minimalist vibe that really appeals. I've picked out some of my favourite looks including everyday basics in neutral palettes, and mixed them up with some beautiful images from my Pinterest boards

See below each moodboard for links to the original sources, as well as the items from Zara.

I've decided to make Musings + Moodboards a regular occasional post. So far they've been sporadic, but you will be seeing more from now on. I'd love to hear what you think, so do leave a comment and let me know.

Have a fun, inspiring and restful weekend. x

  1. First of all I want to say that you are doing really great with your blog and other side-projects - I can imagine how much work and time you have to put in and no wonder one can feel a little bit overwhelmed sometimes... We started our blogs at the same time and look where you are now! Even I feel that I don't have that much time for my blog than I would like to have and reading this makes me think for the first time that I'm happy that I have a little blog, haha! But of course, I'd welcome growth in the future! :)

This comment is already a way too long, but I have to say also that these moodboards are so beautiful and fresh and I like the new layouts as well!
Have a great weekend and take some extra time for yourself! xx

  3. Hello Michelle!
I have been following your blog for a few months now. It was one of the first blogs I started following, even before starting my own, and I must say it was one of those that inspired me to also share my passion for interior design and decoration and start blogging.
Now I have an idea of the work that's behind each post! You've been doing a very good job!

I'm enjoying these Musings + Moodboards so I'm glad you made them a regular post! :)

    xx

  4. I know how hard you work Michelle, it shows in all of your fantastic content! The most important is to take care of you and it's nice to see that the blog is your priority, it's your baby after all. Can't wait to see the redesign! M xx

  5. Oh I know what you mean, and my blog is not nearly as big as yours! Combining it with finishing an university degree and a day job is hard, sometimes I work 90/100-hour weeks so I'm feeling you :) And you have two young boys! But I think your readers will forgive you if you decide not to post something EVERY day of the week, maybe you should give yourself mondays and thursdays off or something ;) Or you could invite a guest blogger to that end. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon Michelle! :)

All the best (from all the way from the Netherlands),

    1. Thanks so much Flor! Great to have such lovely friends who understand the demands of blogging! This post was at the end of a particularly hectic week, but I'm pleased to say things have settled down a bit now, and although I don't think there will ever be enough hours in the day, I'm feeling great! I commend you for blogging on top of your studies and work ... I have no doubt your hard work will pay off! Have a great week x x
