An Artful Home Renovation in Sweden

10.16.2017

This elegant Swedish home featured in the current Residence magazine belongs to shoe designer Nicole Wilson and her husband, actor Andreas Wilson. Currently working for & Other Stories and at Acne Studios before that, Nicole has kept some of her striking sculptural shoe designs from over the years, and displayed them around the home in a artful way. Most of the artwork displayed on the walls is by Nicole's father, artist Lubos Janota, while the ceramics are by Andrea's mother, Constance Wilson. Moving into her parents home, and the place where she grew up, Nicole and Andreas wanted to make their own mark on the property, with lots of light, open spaces and a harmonious play of colour and materials. Moving the location of the kitchen became the starting point for the renovation project. A place to hang out with their two small children, eat, work and do homework together, it was moved to the opposite side of the house to be both open with the living room and to face a small lush garden.

Timeless and functional with beautiful parquet flooring, the kitchen features granite countertops and marble surfaces. A custom glass and sliding door connects with the elegant living room which is furnished with design classics including the Rio table by Charlotte Perriand for Cassina, the EJ6 Ø Chair by Torben Skov for Erik Jørgensen and Sofa by Emma Olbers for Ire.

In contrast to the soft palette in the living areas, the bedroom features a dark blue colour. I love the collection of ceramics and books displayed on opens shelves, the natural linen bedding and homemade pedestals.
