Through the Lens | Mikkel Adsbøl

When Mikkel Adsbøl was introduced to the world of photography by his ninth grade teacher, he was immediately taken by both the technical and visual aspects. Prior to this he wanted to be a chef, so it seems fitting that he began his career as an apprentice for one of Denmark's best food photographers, Lars Ranek. From here he expanded into other areas including advertising, lifestyle, home design, travel and portrait photography. Mikkel says it's a privilege to be able to interpret and convey what he sees of the world through his lens. Looking over his incredible portfolio, I feel privileged being able to enjoy his beautiful work, and I know you will feel the same.

These photos are from Mikkel's Lifestyle portfolio. He finds this area of work exciting because "the challenge lies in creating rooms". I love how he describes the process: "Lifestyle is so much more than white walls and four-legged chairs. It is also a mood. A composition that has to strike a balance in a dedicated teamwork of stylists, craftspeople and designers to achieve the best possible result. Lifestyle is about creating moods that inspire, provoke and take things to a new place". 

I'd love to gain (even some basic) photography skills so I find Mikkel's words both inspiring and daunting at the same time! So much talent, creativity and patience goes in to mastering the art of photographing interiors. I love the way Mikkel incorporates composition, colour and light, often using an over exposed technique to create striking contrasts.

Car Möbel | Interior Inspiration

When I stumbled upon the Car Möbel site late last year I thought Christmas had come early. Based in Germany, my excitement dropped a peg or two when I realised they only ship locally, however the product styling is so insanely good I figured it would be madness not to share it with you. If nothing else, these spaces will inspire you to white-wash your floors and walls! 




The online store offers an extensive range of furniture and homeware not only from Germany but also well known brands from Scandinavia and The Netherlands, such as House Doctor, Nordal, TineK Home, Madam Stolz and Pip Studio. They also sell their own line of furniture which features in all of the images shown here.

I was immediately drawn to the storage section. A huge range of shelves and cabinets provide plenty of organisational inspiration. You may be able to find something similar to replicate the look or experiment with some DIY or even upcycling. It's amazing what a coat of white paint can do for an old piece of furniture. 

I love the versatility of boxed shelving. They look great, can be moved around as you please and the different sizes allow you to store a range of books and objects. Perfect for your workspace, the ones shown here are filled with pretty folders and patterned boxes.

Aside from the desk, the chair is a main component of the workspace. A great way to introduce different texture such as wood or steel, not to mention a pop of bright colour, I love the different styles shown here. Industrial lamps, wire waste baskets, fun prints and desktop accessories add more layers of cool. 

These hallways and living areas are so fresh and welcoming. I've always liked the idea of placing a low bench seat in the entrance way and how cute is the blackboard week planner above?

Having become a bit obsessed with rugs and pouffes of late, Car Möbel has really piqued my interest. As well as adding colour and texture, they make these spaces warm and inviting. 

The bedrooms feature more beautiful furniture, calming colour pallets and a lovely range of bedlinen. 

A mix of neutrals with just a splash of colour (love that rug) and a cosy corner chair works for me. 

I love the muted colour pallet of this bedroom and that gorgeous star print bedding has completely won me over!

Maison & Objet | &Tradition

The annual trade show in Paris, Maison & Objet has just run its course, showing everything from fashion, design and decoration to interior design and home trends. With such an inspiring line up there has understandably been a bit of a buzz out there in the blogging world, especially for those lucky enough to attend. 

One of the exhibitors receiving rave reviews is &Tradtion, the renowned Danish brand who specialise in the design of lighting and furniture. You may remember them from my post on Norm Architects & Design where I featured the stunning Raft Collection of furniture, the Milk Lamp and the Mass Light. Presenting their newest range, I actually got my first glimpse prior to the show via Emmas Designblogg. Too good not to share, the incredible styling and photography by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen has quite literally sent my heart into a flutter!

I love the understated elegance achieved through a mix of minimalism, classic architectural elements, industrial undertones and even a touch of art deco. The beautiful Ice lamp by Sofie Refer is made from hand-blown glass and comes in black and gold. Both gorgeous, I think the gold is especially divine shown here hanging above the Raft Stool.

The In Between Chair by Sami Kallio is a classic beauty. Shown here in white oiled oak, smoked oiled oak and stained black ash, they look amazing styled with other products from &Tradition. My favourite image is the first, showing the chairs around the Raft Table with the hanging group of Mass lights and the Milk Lamp sitting on top of a pile of books. Simply stunning.

Through the Lens | Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer

I first saw this home on the lovely blog 79 ideas and was so captivated, it prompted me to delve further. The stunning images were taken by Danish photographer Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer for the January issue of Elle Decoration. Specialising in interior and lifestyle photography, Birgitta's work takes her around the world, and is featured in top Danish and international magazines. 

Having photographed more than 2000 unique homes worldwide, she has even published several books on the subject, which are sold throughout Europe. I'd love to get my hands on them, especially her best seller 'Nordlys' which captures the typical Scandinavian style.

This home really get my heart racing. The pristine white interiors and built-in desk below that beautiful big window has created the most divine, light-filled workspace. Minimalist styling with wood details and a beautiful collection of framed pictures make for a stunning photo series. To see more, take a look here.

This next house shot by Birgitta is in Versailles and belongs to designer Jane Whitfield. Once again the mood and light has been captured beautifully. 

Monochrome interiors with wood and touches of colour. An incredible combination brought to life through the lens. You can see more here.

To finish off, I thought I'd show you a few photos taken by Birgitta of her own home. Large airy rooms, with giant windows and french doors, the all white home is dreamy. Featured in Sköna Hem, Birgitta talks about her love of shooting in natural light and how her work and travels have inspired her own decorating style. It's hard to believe that an active family with both children and dogs occupy this immaculate home! Despite it's flawless appearance Birgitta says her interior focus is on relaxation and enjoyment. A balance that cannot be easy to achieve, I hope to master it one day!

Stine Langvad

A stunning photo shoot for Elle Decoration Denmark published earlier this year, involved a collaboration between three inspiring creatives. The location was the exquisite Copenhagen home of handbag and accessories designer Yvonne Koné and it was shot by one of my favourite photographers Line Klein, who I recently featured here. The third contributor was Danish interior designer Stine Langvad, who styled the home to perfection.  

Beautifully simple, this home has a serene quality. Minimalist styling against a monochrome palette has helped create this lovely sense of calmness. I can't help but want to completely de-clutter my home when I see this. Sigh. You can see the full house tour here. 

Stine's interior design work is also incredibly inspiring.  

I just love her pared-back Scandinavian style and use of colour. Stine also works as a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and art director. Talk about multi-talented! You can see more of her work here.
