3M Command | Love Your Walls - Part One

1.28.2014

I'm very excited to be kicking off a three part blog series today called Love Your Walls, as part of a campaign for 3M Command Picture Hanging Strips. To demonstrate how easy and effective they are to use, I will be styling three different walls in my home and taking photos to share with you.

I've started with our main living area, as I've been wanting to update the picture wall for some time. While I don't mind a bit of DIY, I prefer to leave anything that involves a drill or hammer to my husband, and for that reason, the 3M Command strips are ideal. No tools required, so I can take charge! I also know that this won't be the last time I change things around, and that like this update, I'll be combining different sized frames, some of which are fairly heavy. As such, the strips are the perfect solution. In addition to providing the best, damage-free hanging, they hold strongly. In fact, the large strips can hold up to 7kg.

Deciding on an all-white theme for the frames this time around, I first needed to swap out black for white, and add in a few new ones. The original picture wall was hung with traditional picture hooks, so I removed these, and replaced them with the 3M Command strips, ensuring there were no bulky attachments on the back of the frames. Once the strips are applied, the frame needs to sit flush against the wall. Not only are the strips easy to use, and strong enough to hold even my heaviest frames, I love that the pictures now all sit flat. What's more, I know that the next time I feel like a change, they can be removed cleanly, without causing damage to our walls.

    1. It's actually a Tea Towel that I had framed, from Father Rabbit, by the artist Angela McKay. You can also buy the framed print (I went with the tea towel because it is bigger) - here's the link:

  3. Wow these are absolutely perfect for renters and I wish I knew about that before I put more holes in the wall! I'll certainly give it a go next time around. The all white frames look great Michelle! M xx

    1. Thanks Mel. They really are fantastic - we've always used them around the house for hanging smaller frames/letters etc, but hadn't thought to use them on a whole picture wall. I wouldn't use anything else now! x

  4. Does that really work? That would be fantastic! I always have to ask my husband to drill some holes in the wall.

  5. I bought these strips last summer, but they were too wide for Ikea Ribba frames, so I didn't end up using them. If I see correctly, the frame you are holding in one of the photos is a Ribba frame? Are there different sized strips or did you just cut them? Or does it hold well even if only half of the strip is in contact with the frame? (The back of the frame piece is just 1 cm wide and my strips are 1,9 cm wide.)

    1. Hi Ae. The one I'm holding is a Ribba frame, and the strips were a little wide so there is a slight overhang, but they still hold strongly. The strips come in 3 sizes, and differ in length, but the width on each is the same. I used the medium strips, and used 6 instead of the recommended 4, for extra reinforcement. I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, let me know! x
