Friday Design Selects

First up today, BETA.Ø is an award-winning architecture firm based in Madrid, whose work demonstrates restraint and clarity. Their C.Ø House is a renovation project featuring large, light-filled open spaces with textured walls and ceilings. Together with meticulous design details, the home has a real purity in its design, and sense of calm. 

Komolab is a modern furniture and decor studio based in South Louisiana founded by designer Kyle Comeaux. With a focus on creating functional beauty through the use of fine materials including solid domestic hardwoods, all pieces are designed and produced in-house. Drawn to the clean, Scandinavian aesthetic, I've picked out a few favourite pieces below.  

Inspired by Scandinavian daybeds, the Walden Dog Bed is as functional as it is beautiful. It features a cushion (lined with waterproof material) with a removable cover made from dense wool-melton fabric, resting on a solid wood frame with leather strap accents. Definitely the most stylish dog bed I have seen, the dimensions can be customised to suit your very own pooch. 

Inspired by simple geometries, the Elysian Incense Burner combines a concrete sphere and and wood base for a bold yet elegant expression. Shown here in walnut, it is also available in white Oak and ebonized Oak finishes. 

The Entryway Wall Rack & Tackboard sets out to accomplish many things in the purist way. Comprising a mail slot, coat rack, tackboard for pinning notes and a magnetic keys-holder, I can see why Komolab describe it as the Swiss army knife of an interior! Shown here in white Oak, it also comes in Walnut and Maple.

Thanks to Desiree at Vosgesparis, I discovered this stunning project today, by Interior Designer Jake Arnold. The new clinic of LA-based skin expert Shani Darden, the spaces feature a sublime material palette in soothing neutrals, and beautiful architectural detailing including arched doorways and a bold marble counter.  

Lastly today, I wanted to share ED_OFFICE, the HQ of Kiev-based architects Emil Dervish. A long-time admirer of Emil's work (his Beige project is still a favourite), I love getting a glimpse into the firm's creative world, to see where the magic happens. The building features incredible architectural detailing including high ceilings with beautiful mouldings, tall arched windows and herringbone flooring. A marriage of modern and traditional, I love how the original details and raw finishes contrast with contemporary furniture and lighting.

Friday Finds

Making up for a busy week juggling school holidays, photo shoots and other work projects, I have put compiled some favourite finds from the week. Kicking off with two new products from Danish brand Muuto, the first is the Enfold Sideboard designed by Thomas Bentzen. Bringing a factory-inspired industrial quality to the home with a fusion of raw and warm materials, the sideboard is made from a lacquered steel that gently enfolds the top and bottom in solid oak. Available in two sizes, one vertical, one horizontal, both offer versatility with the inclusion of a set of of adjustable shelves, as seen here. Offered in a range of gorgeous colours, the Dusty Green is one of my favourites.

"Pared down to the essence through refined and simple details", the beautiful new Workshop Table by Cecilie Manz for Muuto has just launched in Milan for this year's design week. A versatile piece, I can see so many uses for this table in different areas of the home.

Speaking of design week, my Instagram feed has been flowing with highlights. So many inspiring sights, I can only imagine what it must be like to be there in person. One of the many exhibitions that has wowed is Life in Vogue. An amazing revamp of the Vogue Italia's headquarters, Faye Toogood and Patricia Urquiola and Mario Belini are among eight designers who have temporarily put their own mark on different offices within the space. Pictured below, the office of the editor-in-chief created by Toogood features her famous Roly Poly collection and walls decorated with handpainted canvases depicting a tableau of silhouettes and faces. The room’s focal point is the designer’s own ceramic sculpture entitled Family Bust no 3, in a limited edition. Amazing!

Another one from Milan causing serious excitement is Club Unseen, a secret project created for design week by Studiopepe directors Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara Di Pinto, together with their team of architects and interior designers. I'm looking forward to seeing more imagery emerging!

This Slate Cabin located in the Welsh countryside on the edge of Snowdonia National park was designed by Sydney-based architecture studio TRIAS. Commissioned as a result of an international competition, the cabin was designed as a response to the beautiful landscape, built with as few materials as possible. With efficiency and comfort at the forefront, almost all surfaces are lined in birch plywood, while ceilings are covered in a woven hessian. I stumbled across this lovely, light-filled home belonging to Australian wellness guru Carla Oates and two things immediately grabbed my attention; the beautiful abstract artwork by Hannah Nowlan and the sculptural bust (made by Carla's daughter, Jeet, in high school!) A long-time fan of interior stylist Emma Persson Lagerberg, this inspiring kitchen is part of a series she styled last year for Elle Decoration. I love the warm earthy tones and textural stone bench and splashback. The Arnold Circus Stool designed by Martino Gamper is the perfect finishing touch.

Another home that has caught my eye this week, this Barcelona apartment has been beautifully renovated with an interesting contrasts between old and new. This includes the unique use of antique wardrobe doors, repurposed as beautiful wall panelling. See more here.

Following on from my last post, I'm happy to report that Reform has unveiled their latest showroom in Aarhus, Denmark. Located in a historical building that retains the original detailing, the elegant interior features the newly launched Degree collection by Cecilie Manz. Grey provides a warm backdrop layered with pine and pops of contrasting with terrazzo, while beautiful lighting fixtures by Belgian designer Muller van Severen provide further wow.

A little peek inside the stunning home of Carin Wester, fashion designer and design manager at Åhléns. Formerly an old brewery in Stockholm, Carin effortlessly mixes French 60's design with modern minimalism. Featured in the current issue of Residence magazine, read the online interview here.

As the interior trend of hand-crafted and sculptural pieces continues to grow, so does my love of discovering new ceramic artists. I love these stoneware pieces by Iva Polachova, a London based potter specialising in functional tableware, decorative vessels and vases. Drawing inspiration from the ideas of sculptor Constantin Brancusi, Iva’s work combines balance, clearness, fluidity and tactility.

I'm keen to get a new desk for my home office this year. I've been holding off because I really want a adjustable/standing desk and stylish ones are hard to come by here. These designs crossed my radar the other day, and while they aren't adjustable, they have a fresh look, and the built-in storage really appeals. Designed by Thomas Feichtner for Austrian brand Bene, the desks form part of Studio, a range of modular office furniture which includes desks, shelving and accessories. Designed to be combined and arranged to suit, they are aimed at freelancers who work from home or creative individuals whose work is closely linked to their day-to-day activities. It's no wonder they caught my eye! Find out more here.

Friday Finds

I'm rounding off the week with some inspiring interior styling finds. The first is from Ikea Livet Hemma and features a pair of Cikada armchairs designed in the early 1960's by Bengt Ruda. 50 years later its classic design and materials of wood and leather maintain the same level of style and comfort, creating the perfect vintage touches to this relaxing reading corner. I love the haphazard picture wall and mix of graphic elements and personal objects. See more details here, including a competition running via the Ikea Instagram page.

Friday Finds

I have an inspiring mix of finds to share today, starting with Studio 8A by Rye London. Located on the top floor of an old print factory in East London, this industrial style kitchen photography studio is a magnificent all-white space with high ceilings, white exposed brick walls and concrete floors. Fitted out with a dream kitchen that includes expansive work benches, an island and coffee area, the studio provides the perfect location for shoots, filming, workshops, and events. Created as a place to connect, inspire, celebrate and collaborate, it has a focus on natural food, Nordic design and minimalist lifestyle. Find out more at Rye London.

I first featured The Loft, an interior design agency in Amsterdam back in 2015 - a must see, check it out here. The incredible space is curated as a fully furnished apartment and their latest look, which I recently discovered via Petite Passport, showcases a stunning bedroom setup. The interior design of the Four Seasons Downtown New York Hotel (also known as 30 Park Place), was recently completed by design firm Yabu Pushelberg. Featuring beautiful materials and unique elements, I particularly love the bespoke furnishings and soft hues used in the bedrooms. Evoking a sense of calm, this palette was chosen to provide a warm, residential quality and it has certainly delivered.

These next images courtesy of Residence Magazine were created at a magical 1600-century palace in Stockholm. Featuring a mix of highly covetable furniture and objects included hand-crafted pieces, I've always found the woven S-Chair by Tom Dixon for Cappalleni to be a piece of art in its own right.
