Musings + Moodboards

8.23.2017

Dreaming of warmer weather, new projects and an ongoing love affair with beige. That pretty much sums up today's moodboard. I'm recovering from another round of winter bugs, but I'm not surprised given the crazy few months I've had. The good thing is, it has forced me to slow down and catch my breath. I've turned a corner this week and I feel really excited about what's to come on the blog and home front. In keeping with the neutral theme, visit my recently updated Shop page for some more things I'm currently loving. Roll on summer!

Homes to Inspire | Swedish Summer House

8.10.2016

The current cold snap has me dreaming of summer days. With so many beautiful interiors coming from Scandinavia the web has been a constant stream of sun-filled holiday inspo. Pining for warmer weather more than ever, this home in Gotland looks like the perfect place to enjoy some downtime in the sun. I love the neutral palette, especially the textured walls. There's even a swimming pool and little guest house which you can see here. Roll on summer!

Instagram | Ideas + Inspiration

2.12.2016

Scrolling through my Instagram over the last couple of months, this first image I posted back in January is a favourite. Since moving into our new build two and a half years ago I've become very familiar with the light in our home and how it moves around the spaces at different times of the day. We are fortunate that the upstairs open-plan living space is bathed in natural light, and I love how it streams in from the windows and travels across to the side of the String Shelf. If you look closely you'll see the it catching the edge of the Houston Design Co ceramics and Cultiver napkins, enhancing the natural textures and shapes. The shadows across the models face in the Repossi image add to the effect with a beautiful play on light and dark

I've had the pleasure of testing out the latest Nespresso Limited Edition capsules this week and I’ve taken a serious liking to the sweet and silky smooth Tanim de Chiapas from coffee growers in Chiapas, Mexico, while the Umutima wa Lake Kivu produced by coffee growers in Rwanda is highly aromatic and refreshing. Providing the ultimate afternoon pick me up, the capsules arrived with the beautiful banana, coffee chocolate cake pictured below.

For those in Auckland, Bloom Social have put together a stunning Valentine's Day edit, teaming up with Moochi to include a selection of jewellery and Essie NZ with a polish duo to go along with the gorgeous blush coloured roses. There's still time to pre-order if you're quick, (or drop some hints for the man in your life!) I was also very happy to receive some more La Chamba cookware to add to my collection. The organic, handcrafted and wonderfully versatile pieces are exclusive to French Country Collections and can be purchased at their Herne Bay store Un Deux Trois and at selected stockists

January included some holiday pics from our stay up at Point Wells, near beautiful Omaha beach, just an hour and a half north of Auckland.

Finally, a highlight from this week was attending the Citta Design Winter 2016 Preview Beautiful Utility - A Journey to 1970s Berlin. The Haus Tea Towel and Ginger Bread Candle above give you a small taste of what to expect. It's all gorgeous and I can't wait to share more with you!

Bedrooms | Summer Styling

10.12.2015

The kids have just gone back to school for their final term of the year and I'm now starting to think seriously about summer - both holiday planning and seasonal styling updates at home. When it comes to bedrooms we often focus on making them cosy for the cooler months but spring and summer bedroom updates are equally important. In fact today's post came about while looking through my 'Summer Barn-House Inspiration' folder which I've mentioned several times over the past few years. The dream of building a simple barn-like structure next to the beach is never far from my mind, but it tends to come to the forefront at this time of the year. I've added some gorgeous bedrooms lately, all of which have a holiday-home kind of vibe. Most are white and bright paired with warm neutrals. There's a pop of colour here, a rustic vibe there. Quite frankly I'd be happy with a plywood box or shipping container next to the beach, so these are purely fantasy but one can dream, right?

Soft curtains or mosquito nets create a soft, billowy effect, while natural pottery, cane, cotton and crochet in tonal shades of white create a 'boutique hotel' vibe. Below Linen House creative director Michele Duncan says they have taken their cues from the stunning Australian coastline "to evoke a feeling of carefree summers spent by the beach". I love the addition of leather, concrete and black and white artworks.

Lazing around reading books, sandals and a sunhat ready to grab on the way outside, the bedroom above is rustic perfection. I love the exposed bricks, simple bedding and natural cane Leaf Stool

The bedding above reminds me of the beautiful new Summer Cultiver Linen in Sage which I was lucky to get my hands on. Giving our bedroom a lovely lift, it's no secret I swear by linen, which is both warm in winter and cool in summer. In addition to changing the colour palette, I also like to switch the wool blankets for lighter cotton. This is also an area where you can bring some of the outdoors in by way of natural materials. Right now I'm loving rattan chairs and woven baskets. Our bedroom is small but if I had the space I'd love a big area rug in a natural weave and a bench seat or chair. Vintage or upcycled pieces would be more than welcome in my summer barn bedroom! I'd also add green plants or simple foraged branches from outside, and a seashell or two collected from the beach.

Kate & Kate | The Great Escape

7.29.2015

The new summer 15/16 collection from Kate & Kate is here! The Great Escape will be showcased for the first time at Life Instyle Melbourne tomorrow, and I am thrilled to have a sneak peek to share with you today.

Described by the talented sister-in-law duo as as "by far our most exciting - and most adventurous - season to date", the collection, which includes beautiful new cotton blankets and linen throws, introduces a new range of stunning hand screen-printed linen cushions with custom feather inserts, as well as gorgeous linen napkins. Plush bath sheets and hand towels together with both kids and adult beach towels complete the amazing new lineup of Kate & Kate goodness.

Featuring a mix of clean lines, bold shapes and fun graphics, I love that the colour palette includes soft tones, bright colours as well as simple monochromes. While I favour the more neutral colours for home, I'm all for colourful and vibrant beach towels. The Uniform Adult Beach Towel is definitely calling out to me. Incredibly soft and absorbent, all the new towels are generous in size and can be used in the bathroom, at the pool or down at the beach. Roll on summer!

Knowing first-hand the level of quality and attention to detail that goes into every Kate & Kate product, my heart is a flutter at seeing this extensive new range. I wish I were heading to Life Instyle to get up close and personal. If you're lucky enough to be in Melbourne, make sure you pop along for a look between July 30th and August 2nd.

The Great Escape is also now available for pre-order from the Kate & Kate webshop.
