THE DESIGN CHASER

Nord Projects

1.31.2018

News of a lovely new art store, Nord Projects, landed in my inbox while away and I'm very happy to spread the word! Founded by Gothenburg-based freelance artist and designer Josefin Holmgren, Nord Projects has launched with a collection of diverse works across four 'projects'.  Because I am currently obsessed with minimalist line drawings and abstract paintings, there are two categories that really resonate with me right now; the Simple project which includes minimalistic line drawings that capture the beautiful shapes and lines of the human body, and the Swim project, comprising paintings with feminine shapes and soft colours inspired by women during summer vacation.

Inspired by nature with beautiful textures, the one above is from the Grain project. The art prints are available in a range of sizes with international shipping. Visit Nord Projects to shop the full collection.

New + Noted

6.01.2016

Danish design company &Tradition have launched the 721 Grams Candle Holder designed by Isabell Gatzen. The Zurich based designer draws on her work with consumer electronics, working with premium natural products to create simple minimalist designs that are also playful and engaging. True to its name, 721 Grams is made of high quality, hand polished brass. This together with a design that encourages interaction -  the candleholder can be twisted, stacked or unstacked into any type of configuration - makes for a aesthetically beautiful and tactile object for the home.

I'm very excited to introduce you to the new collection Leinen 2016 by Jennifer + Smith today. The Sydney-based Kiwi design duo have drawn inspiration from the German Bauhaus movement with their new range of linen cushions and throws. Consisting of beautiful bold shapes and gorgeous colourways, these timeless pieces have arrived just in time for winter. Knowing firsthand how important the quality of fabric is to Jennifer + Smith I wasn't surprised to hear they had sourced something special for the new collection. The natural Wexford Linen, born and and woven in Lancashire, UK is an effortlessly natural fabric that they say won them over at first touch. Reflecting their mindful ethos and dedication to supporting local business, the collection has been direct-to-fabric digitally printed in Alexandria, Sydney, and is sewn in house at the Jennifer + Smith studio.

Danish designer and artist Kristina Krogh has launched a beautiful new collection of art prints. It's hard to choose but here a few of my favourites, including the Behind Blinds prints. Part of the Shades series featuring thin water colour lines, Kristina says they are "an interpretation of the interaction between light and shadow and the various changes in shapes and stories that emerge according to where and how the light falls." I'm also drawn to the incredible collection of serigraphs made from original artworks with thousands of dots made by hand. In particular, the gold metallic variations Sphere and Gather. Father Rabbit | Paper Collective

8.11.2015

My heart skipped a beat when I received news from Father Rabbit yesterday announcing latest arrival. All the way from Denmark, Paper Collective brings together their favourite graphic designers, agencies, artists and illustrators to create inspirational and iconic graphic prints. The result is a fresh mix of limited edition prints, each one unique but equally beautiful. What makes this brand even more appealing is that they promote great causes and charities, with at least 10% of the sale of each print goes towards the artists chosen charity.

Paper Collective have collaborated with an impressive list of designers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Copenhagen and Russia. They include Form Us With Love, Hvass & Hannibal and TAF Architects to name just a few. When you browse through the prints over at Father Rabbit, you can read about each designer, along with their chosen charity.

Ahhh now to decide on which one! As you can see, the collection is vast but Father Rabbit are limited to just three of each design so make sure you don't miss out! Shop the collection here.

One more thing before I go today. You may have seen the AMARA Interior Blog Awards banner on the side of my blog recently. An honour to even be nominated, Amara is an UK-based company that houses over 300 of the world’s most luxurious home fashion brands. I'd love to have your vote to be in with a chance of being shortlisted! You'll find me in the Best International Interior Blog category, (for interior blogs based outside of the UK, Europe, the US & Australia). Simply fill in your name and email address here to vote. Thanks!

Variety Show Studio

9.25.2014

Variety Show is a new online shop and graphic design studio located in Southern California. Founded by husband and wife team Amber and Mike Asay, the creative couple specialise in brand identity work and art direction. They also love creating their own work for others to have in their home, and have recently produced their first collection of prints showcasing their love of typography, lettering and illustration. While these debut prints have a distinct Scandi vibe, the couple say that stylistically they strive to bring different cultural stories and eras to their work.

Amber very kindly offered to send me a print and I chose the Shaped Glyphs. I love the clean lines and bold typography, screen printed in black and metallic copper. Striking in a black frame, I chose a white one because I know it will look amazing on my living room picture wall, alongside the other white framed prints. Such a fun print to work with, here's how I styled it for you today. I like it so much, it might end up staying here for a while!

Varitey Show ship internationally and even better, the prints are currently on sale, so be sure to pop over for a look, with your credit card handy!

Lovedales Studio

7.21.2014

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Sorry for not stopping by on Friday. I had to put the blog to one side over the last few days to focus on a new project, which I'm really excited about. I'll let you know about that soon, but for today I'm thrilled to be sharing a new online art discovery all the way from Scandinavia.

Lovedales Studio is a graphic design and illustration company and the brainchild of Hanne Løvdal, a talented designer based in Norway. I'm so happy that Hanne tracked me down via Instagram, because one look at her work and my heart was singing, loudly!

Hanne shares my passion for magazines, and has an extensive background working in the area of graphic and editorial design, including 14 years at Egmont Hjemmet Mortensen, the largest magazine publishing house in Norway. Most recently her role was as Art Director for two magazines, which she held for almost 9 years. Needless to say, quitting her job in the Spring of 2013 to start her own business was a brave step, but one that has allowed her to focus on her passion for drawing. She also works with commercial clients on design, advertorials and logo design.

I really love Hanne's aesthetic, her use of water colours and the soft palettes she works with. I think these artworks would fit well in any beautiful interior, especially those that are Scandinavian in style. The great news is, Lovedales Studio ships worldwide. Choosing which one to buy, not so easy! See the full range and shop online here. For commissions, contact Hanne direct, and to stay in the loop, follow Lovedales on Instagram and Facebook.
