Interior Styling | Bedside Tables

3.20.2013

The bedside zone is an important one. Serving as a place to put things like books and reading glasses, it should also compliment the room's decor. I'm currently trying to decide on both bedside tables and lamps for the master bedroom of our new home. Today I thought I'd start with beside tables by showing you my shortlist of ideas.

The Kartell Componibili Module is a strong contender. I've admired this design classic for a long time and when I showed my husband and got a positive response it further confirmed that it would be a great choice. Even though I like the look of mismatched bedside furniture, this unit is so cool it seems only fair that we get one each, don't you think?

Gorgeous Moroccan styling here with a lovely leather pouffe as a sidetable...

For a sleek modern look, beds with built-in headboards and night stands are a great option...

Ladder shelves are both functional and stylish, providing lots of space for books, mags and even plants. I think however we'll have to hold off on this for a while, at least until our youngest son has passed the 'climbing everything' phase. I love this DIY ladder created by Jennifer Hagler from A Merry Mishap.

This charming vintage step ladder is a good height...

Here's a great example of placing different furniture on either side of the bed, with a ladder on one side and a simple stool on the other...

An occasional chair as beautiful as this one will most certainly do the trick...

Tree stumps make great bedside tables, either on their own...

or grouped together...

  1. They are all gorgeous choices Michelle, my favourites would be the wishbone and the Componibili. Actually I'd say go for the Componibili - I have it as a bedside table now but originally purchased it for bathroom storage - would work well in a kids room also. But then again, the wishbone chair could be used everywhere also and is sooo beautiful! Mel x

    1. Thanks for your advice Mel - I do love the Componibili and like you said, the great thing about them (and chairs and ladders for that matter) is their versatility and being able to move them from room to room! x

  2. I love the ladder idea! Although I am extremely desperate for the Kartell Componibili!

Saw these on Freedom furniture and thought they could be a good cheap alternative to the ladders featured in your post?

    1. Hello iloveblanc! So nice of you to stop by. I think I remember seeing the ladders at Freedom the other day. I popped in for the first time in ages and was pleasantly surprised to find some Scandi-inspired homewares! x

  3. All your choices are fab. I too love the Kartell modules, and the driftwood stool is cool. We have one of my Cush & Nooks bone inlay side tables on one side of our bed, which I'm crazy about. The wardrobe door doesn't allow us to have one on the other side, but we do have a cord light looped over a mounted ceramic deer head. x

  5. Hi Michelle. I've just discovered your blog and love it! I'm inspired to redecorate my bedroom. Where could I get the black lamp that you have shown on top of the kartell modules please?

    1. Hi Jenny. I had a look at Stylizimo where I sourced that image, and the black lamp is an Ikea one. I've had a look and found a match with the Forsa Work Lamp. Here's the link (in Australia - I'm not sure where you are based).

      I hope that helps!
