Letter Love

11.14.2012

For me, design and typography go hand in hand, so when it comes to interiors, I'm a big fan of display letters. Whether your preference is wood, steel, coloured or natural, hung on the wall, free standing or leaned up against a wall, letters can look amazing. You can even go one step further and spell out a word, phrase or child's name. When it comes to making an impact, the bigger the better!

I've been meaning to write a post on this topic for some time, and when I discovered the illuminated letters by Sydney based design company Fromage La Rue recently, I knew it couldn't wait any longer. The image below shows a sneak peek of a recent photo shoot they did for their Vegas Boneyard Letters, beautifully styled by one of my favourite Australian stylists, Vanessa Colyer Tay who works for top publications such as Inside Out and Home Beautiful.

In addition to these amazing letters, the Fromage La Rue design duo create symbols, vintage style wooden letters, statement signage and custom pieces. All designed and handmade in Australia, and all oversized, I'm in love with the idea of these for a child's room or as an interior lighting solution for your home or workplace.

Here are some more great finds.

  2. We must travel in similar circles online, Michelle - I bookmarked Fromage La Rue yesterday! Was trying to work out how to get one of their massive letters over to NZ - probably not feasible, might have to stick with one of their Petite letters when they arrive. Would love to find some huge letters off a vintage sign, always looking. x

    1. Yes, shipping would be pretty expensive! Sarah (from Fromage La Rue) said half their family are from NZ and they all want one! She's hoping the minis will overcome that... x
